Honoring Michael Fennell, Founder of Rip-Tie
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Paul Fennell, a visionary entrepreneur and beloved friend, who left us on March 29, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in 1943, Michael dedicated his life to innovation and excellence, leaving an indelible mark on the world of technology and business.
In 1985, Michael co-founded Seam Tech with his partner, embarking on a journey that would change the landscape of cable management. That same year, he introduced the first patented Rip-Tie CableWrap, a product that would become synonymous with quality and reliability. His passion for problem-solving and commitment to his craft led him to become the sole proprietor of Rip-Tie, Inc. in 1991, establishing the company in the vibrant South of Market district of San Francisco.
Under Michael’s leadership, Rip-Tie flourished. In 2001, he made a significant investment in the future of the company by purchasing a building in San Leandro, CA, where he relocated the headquarters. His innovative spirit continued to shine as he filed the “Rip-Tie mini” patent in 2010, followed by the groundbreaking “Rip-Lock CableWrap” patent in 2013, and “Rip-Track CableWrap” patent in 2018, all of which were recognized in the USA, Europe, and Japan.
Michael’s entrepreneurial journey was marked by growth and expansion. In 2018, he acquired a second building to serve as a warehouse, and in 2021, he purchased a third building to further support the burgeoning business. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his employees, whom he regarded as family.
Beyond his professional achievements, Michael was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for those around him. He had a unique ability to inspire others, fostering a sense of community and collaboration within his team. His legacy extends far beyond the products he created; it lives on in the hearts of those he mentored and the lives he touched.
Michael is survived by his loving family and countless friends who will remember him for his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering spirit. As we celebrate his life, we honor a man who not only built a successful business but also cultivated a legacy of innovation and compassion.
Rest in peace, Michael. Your legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who follow in your footsteps.
